Abstract
In this report the review of image coding standards and methods
for communication channels at bit-rates lower than 64 kbps
is presented. First, moving image coding standards
MPEG--4 and H.263 are desribed.
In the second part of this report the review of object-oriented
image coding methods and the description of the most important,
currently continued, research work for this domain is given.
