Wavelet rapresentation of digital images -- theory and
practice

Abstract
In the paper there are presented:
the mathematical background of 1D and 2D signal expansion into
wavelet series and the algorithm for such expansion in the form of
discrete wavelet transform.
The techniques for constructing orthonormal wavelet basis with
compact support and their relation to subband filtering of digital
signals, are described. There are included examples of wavelet
representation for images and its applications in compression for
archivization and progressive transformation.
